Why Would an Industrial Fan Fail?

Industrial fans help keep machines, equipment and people cool. This is especially important in places where the weather is warm, and the interior of buildings, such as warehouses, can become sweltering if fans aren’t circulating air properly.

If you work in a place with machinery, you know that many machines can get hot. Fans, however, help regulate the temperature in their vicinity so they don’t overheat and/or become damaged. They also keep rooms from becoming stifling hot– and this is helpful for the people who have to be in those rooms and don’t want to faint.

Sometimes industrial fans fail. There are some common causes for such failures.

Common Reasons for Industrial Fan Failures

For instance, sometimes, for whatever reason, foreign objects or particles make their way inside a fan. Perhaps it’s bugs or an animal or dust or something else– whatever it is, it causes problems inside the fan. Maybe parts of the fan corrode over time. Bearings can become loose. Or a lack of lubrication causes friction. Whatever the particular issue, a fan might stop working because something is impeding its function. Now you can sometimes prevent failure if you hear odd noises or notice unusual vibration(s)– checking the fan and/or getting it fixed “in time” can mean the difference between a day of down time versus weeks or even months.

Industrial fans can fail if there’s a lack of airflow. If this is the case, there could be misaligned blade angles or a clogged inlet. Maybe the impeller was installed poorly. Fans need airflow to work– otherwise, you’ve got problems. Meanwhile, misaligned components in fans (such as a misaligned impeller) can cause them not to work.

Finally, there are electrical malfunctions which cause fans to fail. Voltage fluctuations, fusing issues, etc., are electrical issues that need to be fixed to get the fan(s) working again.

Periodic inspections and maintenance are important with industrial fans to ensure things are working properly.
